Piazza Malatesta
Malatesta's fortress, walls.

Piazza Malatesta is named after the castle of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, seignor of Rimini from 1432 to 1468. The castle combines a celebrationg splendour with defensive necessities. Once a great moat was all around it.
Now instead of the moat there a parking place where on Wednesday and Saturday afternoon the weekly market takes place. 

The castle has being undergoing several restorations and one of the projects is about the reopening of the old large moat.
 



Getting there: City centre by car: Motorway A14 "Rimini Sud" Exit; straight ahead direction "Rimini centro" for about 3 kms. Useful parking areas: 1) p.zza Malatesta 2) Rocca Malatestiana 3) Ponte di Tiberio 4) largo Gramsci. By train: from the railway station straight ahead to Piazza Tre Martiri, then to the right to piazza Cavour, beyond the Theatre. By air: bus n.9 - bus stop Arco d' Augusto or Railway Station
